In May 2015, Buy Fresh Buy Local of the Greater Lehigh Valley launched the first SNAP incentive program in the Lehigh Valley, funded by a USDA NIFA Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentives program. SNAP is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly called food stamps. LV Fresh Food Bucks provides matching funds (up to $10 per day) for people using SNAP benefits to buy more local fruits and vegetables at farmers markets, farm stands, the Eat Real Food Mobile Market, neighborhood corner stores and other retail locations. In 2017, BFBLGLV teamed up with Lehigh Valley Health Network, St. Luke’s University Health Network, the Kellyn Foundation and the Greater Easton Development Partnership to receive another FINI grant to expand the incentives program across the region.
LV Fresh Food Bucks not only provides our low-income community members with the freshest, most nutritionally dense food available, it creates additional revenue channels for our local farmers and keeps more money circulating in our local economy.

BFBLGLV is a program of the Nurture Nature Center, a 501c3 organization working to build community resiliency to environmental risk by leveraging the power of informal science education, art-centered approaches to learning and community dialogue and networking.
